Executive review is one route. Know the others.
Understand what each channel can do, what it cannot promise, and which requirements you need to verify for your own situation.
Compare your routes
| Route | Useful for | Check before relying on it |
|---|---|---|
| Dealer & technical review | Inspection, diagnosis, repair and documented findings. | Warranty coverage and accurate repair orders. Technical review is different from repurchase authority. |
| Brand / executive review | Escalation, corporate decisions, repair coordination and proposed voluntary assistance. | No published internal scorecard was found. Ask for written scope, owner and decision. |
| BBB AUTO LINE | Free mediation and arbitration for eligible manufacturer disputes. | Current program rules, state variation, exclusions, remedy limits and deadlines. |
| State Lemon Law process | Potential statutory remedies when all requirements are met. | Applicable state, qualifying vehicle, defect, repair opportunity, formal notice and filing. |
| Warranty / other legal claim | Independent assessment of rights beyond a voluntary review. | Coverage, facts, limitation periods, fees and prerequisites with counsel. |
| NHTSA | Possible safety defect reporting and recall research. | Not a process for awarding your individual refund or rental expenses. |
Find your state’s starting resources
Coverage depends on delivery, purchase, ownership, lease and other facts. A move does not automatically change the governing law. This finder offers seven detailed starting summaries and an official directory for every other state and territory.

Before you choose BBB AUTO LINE
Cadillac is a national participant, but your claim still needs an eligibility review. AUTO LINE is a separate process from a general BBB business complaint. Read the rules and the manufacturer summary assigned to your claim.
- Confirm whether your requested remedy is available under the applicable route.
- Check age, mileage, warranty and filing limits, and whether you must own or lease the vehicle throughout the process.
- Disclose relevant crashes, injuries, fire damage and other facts truthfully. Ask counsel about the suitable route if exclusions apply.
- Prepare orders, notices and a short chronology. Follow evidence and hearing instructions.
- Ask about the effect of accepting an award or settlement before agreeing.
BBB describes its arbitration decision as nonbinding on the consumer, and binding on the manufacturer if the consumer accepts. Review the actual acceptance terms and your state procedure; do not assume accepting leaves all other claims intact.

- Benefit: amount, exact replacement, repair promise or contract coverage.
- Calculation: offsets, taxes, fees, debt, negative equity and disputed expenses.
- Performance: dates, lender payoff, payment sequence and vehicle surrender.
- Conditions: release scope, confidentiality, claim withdrawal and case closure.
- Remaining obligations: loan or lease payments, insurance, keys, records and accessories.
- Review: counsel’s advice when represented or when rights and releases are involved.
Do not stop loan or lease payments based on a verbal approval. Confirm satisfaction with the lender. A trade incentive, voluntary buyback and statutory replacement can have different financial and legal effects.
Finding legal help
Ask your state consumer office or state bar for attorney referral resources. Look for experience with vehicle warranty claims and the applicable state’s rules. Ask about fees, costs, fee-shifting, arbitration prerequisites, expected remedies and whether the lawyer has reviewed your actual documents. This site has no paid attorney referrals.
Send the purchase/lease agreement, warranty booklet, timeline, all repair orders, correspondence, notices, offers and any deadline. If already represented, contact your existing lawyer before starting another proceeding or accepting a release.
Common misconceptions
“Thirty days automatically means a buyback.”
