They close the case while defects remain

Record the disagreement and request the next route.

What to do, in order

  1. Send a dated statement identifying every unresolved concern and relevant repair order. Ask for written confirmation of closure and its reason.
  2. Ask whether the case can be reopened or linked to a new case and who can review the decision. Preserve the old case number.
  3. Continue reporting new events to the dealer and safety issues to NHTSA. Ask counsel or the state program about remaining options and deadlines.

What you can say

“I do not agree that the concerns in case [number] are resolved. Please retain the attached unresolved-item list and confirm the review route after closure.”

What to watch for

A disagreement email is evidence of your position; it is not guaranteed to reopen the case or preserve a statutory claim.

Your next step

Use the closure objection template.

These steps are suggested consumer practices. Follow case-specific instructions, state requirements and your attorney’s advice when they apply.
