Parts are backordered with no date

Turn an open-ended wait into a documented repair status.

What to do, in order

  1. Ask for the part description, order date, availability status and the next update date. Request written confirmation that the vehicle remains at the dealer for repair.
  2. Ask whether technical support has identified an approved interim repair, replacement component or safe transport option. Do not demand an unapproved workaround.
  3. Request the transportation arrangement, rental authorization limit and who pays each expense. Keep all receipts.
  4. Track actual drop-off and return dates. Ask the state program or counsel which days qualify; parts delays and loaners are treated differently across laws.

What you can say

“Please confirm the outstanding part, date ordered, current availability, and the transportation plan while the repair remains incomplete.”

What to watch for

Do not assume waiting for parts automatically qualifies you for a buyback or pauses a filing deadline.

Your next step

Update your repair log and review state resources.

These steps are suggested consumer practices. Follow case-specific instructions, state requirements and your attorney’s advice when they apply.
